In addition to discussing two interviewees, I will also reflect upon some of my own experiences with being a gay geek woman. Being a gay woman in any community can pose some challenges when it comes to things such as representation, safety, and socializing especially dating. I spoke with two women, Liz and Kay, about their experiences with being gay and geeky, and the first topic we covered was the representation of gay women in geekdom. Liz noted that she especially identifies with Cosima, and that it was wonderful to see a gay female character who was relatably nerdy. Best remembered in the real world for her role as Deanna Troi on Star Trek: The Next Generation, this is a part that fits Sirtis like a well-tailored space-glove. Sirtis is a revelation; the jaded, cynical heavy drinker that she plays here is a far cry from the poised empath that Star Trek viewers will remember, and her chemistry with King makes for a palpably plausible friendship — one that has painful secrets to yield over the course of the play. A pair of raw and real performances that sing with painful truth.
